Teams participating in Expedition Africa Namaqua West Coast that have not yet decided on a beneficiary to support, are requested to consider the local branch of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). The organisation has officially been nominated by Namaqua West Coast tourism as its beneficiary for the event.
Expedition Africa is one of the world’s most prominent adventure races and takes place in South Africa’s Namaqua West Coast region from 18 to 27 May. It forms part of the Adventure Racing World Series and will see athletes from 22 countries taking part. Competitors race unsupported across more than 500 km of arduous terrain, using disciplines including navigation, trekking, MTB, kayaking and mountaineering.
Social contribution comprises a large part of the planning activities in the run-up to the event and it has become common practice for teams to generate support for nominated causes.
“CANSA plays an invaluable role in our community and relies heavily on outside funding,” says Namaqua West Coast tourism manager Monika de Jager. “Our distance from Cape Town is a huge challenge for the local CANSA branch. The funds raised from Expedition Africa will go towards the transport of patients to Cape Town for essential treatment.
“While many teams may have already decided on a beneficiary organisation to support, we hope to encourage those who are still looking to consider the local branch of CANSA.”
